Why Little Learners

We help children build self-assurance and develop problem-solving skills in a safe, supportive environment. Through carefully structured activities, children learn to try new tasks, make decisions, and tackle challenges confidently—skills that set them up to thrive in the classroom and beyond.

Our program covers the core foundations for Prep success. Children develop literacy skills like letter recognition and early writing, numeracy skills such as counting and pattern recognition, fine motor skills through hands-on activities, and social-emotional skills that help them interact positively with peers and adults.

Learning should never feel like work! Every activity is designed to be hands-on, playful, and meaningful. From interactive games and creative art projects to collaborative group challenges, children enjoy learning while naturally developing the skills they need for school.

Children learn to navigate friendships, manage emotions, and collaborate with peers. Through group activities, role-play, and guided interactions, they develop empathy, resilience, and the confidence to express themselves—giving them a strong foundation for happy, successful school experiences.

How the School Readiness Program Works
Enquire - send an email and Elicia or Sarah are happy to answer any questions you may have regarding classes and our program.
Secure your child’s spot - by booking through the website and complete a simple enquiry form. This helps us to understand your child’s strengths and areas for growth.
Orientation – A welcome letter will be sent out so you are your child know who your teacher is and what they need for their first day of their school readiness program.
Weekly Classes & Activities – Hands-on, play-based learning designed to build school-ready skills that is full of fun, colour and movement.
Communication - Join a closed WhatsApp group for your class where updates will be given after every class with videos and photos of what they got up to. A newsletter will also be sent regularly with upcoming events and information.
Progress & Feedback – teachers are happy to meet and have a chat regarding your children progress either before or after class. Informal assessments are made on the children during their session so we are able to cater to their developing knowledge and needs.

There is are 12 children in each class with two teachers.
What is covered in each session?

The school readiness program will provide explicit teaching on social and behavioural skills all expected in a classroom environment broken down into two areas of literacy and numeracy.
The main focus of the session will be literacy based focusing on:
• Early reading strategies
• Sound and letter recognition.
• Relative word recognition
• Fine motor control – pencil grip
• Letter formation and handwriting
I will also be introducing simple numeracy concepts such as:
• Counting
• Number recognition
• Simple math language such as big, small, up, down, more, less etc

With over 20 years of experience in early childhood education and a Bachelor of Education in Early Childhood, I have dedicated my career to the growth and development of young minds. Inspired by my own children, aged 3 years and 10 months at the time, and fuelled by my love of working with Kindergarten-aged children, I founded Little Learners Ascot. Starting with just one student in August 2017, I have seen Little Learners grow into a thriving community.

Originally a high school Maths teacher, I discovered that after having children, I was drawn to the hands-on, playful side of teaching younger learners. Since beginning my journey with Little Learners in 2022, I’ve loved working with kindergarten-aged children — and now I’m thrilled to have opened my own branch in Kalinga!
